9 Tips every bride should know

Hi, my name is Carena and Ive been doing bridal hair for 10+ years! Im a new mom and am fortunate to be able to continue working from the comfort of my home. Being a hairstylist is so much fun! I love my job and I especially love doing wedding hair! Its slightly nerve wrecking that morning of, I wont lie! Even after 10 years, I still have some nerves going when the bride sits in my chair! but once I'm in the zone and curls start forming and bobbi pins pinning, I settle in and watch the beauty start to take its shape.

I feel so honoured being chosen to help make a bride look her best on the big day! But truly all Brides are beautiful, the hair, the make up and the dress help, yes, but the just married glow can't be applied by a stylist. Over the years here is some of the advice I have to share about choosing your wedding hairstyle.

Maybe you are fortunate enough to be getting your hair done by someone you fully trust or that your comfortable with and have been going to for years! But if your not here's something's to keep in mind

1.Make a trial appointment. If your unhappy rebook a second appointment, keep doing this until you feel confident and comfortable. And if your still not, find someone else!

2.Bring pictures!!!!! Realistic pictures. Keep in mind if your hair is short/curly/thick/thin it may not be possible to look like the picture you have chosen, sorry! That reminds me of the age old saying "I'm a beautician not a magician". Bring pictures of a couple different styles! you may think you want it a certain way but seeing it done in a style that you thought was your second choice might just surprise you! I've had it happen many times, you think "I'm sure I want it all up" we do that, then we do it to the side and that's the one they chose!

3.Be open for suggestions, we(hairstylist) should hopefully know what we're talking about when it comes to this!

4.Have an open mind and have patience! I don't do my trials to perfection, it's to give you an idea! It will look much cleaner and polished the day of.

5.Get your makeup done first, we all look better once this is done! An updo with "I just rolled out of bed face" doesn't look as pretty because brides usually can't see past there face in the mirror.

6.If something hurts, tell us! Yes pain is beauty, haha, but not if the whole day you've been suffering a headache over a bobbi pin or your veil! We can usually move and readjust!

7.No you don't need MORE hairspray, a few major blasts are more then enough! layering and layering it is just a waste, it was covered enough probably the first 3 times we sprayed it. This can also leave a flakey film after over spraying.

8.I don't really recommend wearing it down, as much as I LOVE the look, some people's hair doesn't hold curl well, no matter who does it! or it's blowing around all day, or hot on your back in mid summer, or in your face! Ive seen it end in disappointment. BUT if your hair holds curl well and you are really comfortable on a regular day wearing it down then by all means do, it is a gorgeous look! But having it up and out of your way on the big day is definitely nice.

9.And most important, hair, dress or makeup- make sure your comfortable and your still you! He's marrying you because he loves YOU, not this different woman you have created on your wedding day!
